Guidelines For Listing The Web Site
Open Web Directory India Submission Guidelines
Open Web Directory India has made it easy to add your site, just browse through the topics and choose the one that best suits your site. Click the "Add URL" link in the page and Open Web Directory India will guide you through the simple process.
Please submit sites to the most appropriate and specific topic or category possible. This is important because directory users often drill down to the topic in which they are interested. If you submit your site to a too general topic, you may get missed by your target audience.
Using the correct URL
List the URL of the index page, including the slash at the end: http://www.http://www.opendirectory.in/ this to keep URLs standard. Sometimes several URLs can lead to the same site:
For example,
http://domain name.com/
http://www.domain name.com/
http://www.domain name.com/index.html
http://www.domain name.com/home.html
Always chose the one with the "www" in the URL and leave off "home.html", "index.html" or any other extension that is not necessary to access the site.
All of the information after the ".com/" is dynamically generated and should be removed before the URL is added to Open Web Directory India Website. When you remove the parts of the URL after the extension (.com/, .net/), make sure that it still works. If so, that is the URL that should be added.
For sites with more than one URL (.com, .net) use the .com extension. This will help avoid multiple listings for the same site in the same topic.
What is the most appropriate topic or category?
The best way to decide is to look through all the available topics and their subtopics to become familiar with them. A keyword search to find similar sites and their topics is also very helpful. If the site to be submitted is of a broad and varied subject matter, then it belongs in a more general topic. If it deals with a more narrow subject, then it belongs in a more specific topic. For example, if a site deals with Arts, Fine Art, Language and Museums, it would belong in the Arts and Entertainment topic or category. But if it deals solely with Musical Bands and Artists, then it would belong in the Arts and Entertainment > Music > Bands and Artists subtopic or subcategory.
How do I get my site listed in more than one category?
You should submit your site to the single most appropriate category that is directly relevant to your site's content. Please only submit your site one time. The Open Web Directory India Website editors reserve the right to use their editorial discretion to determine which category or categories your site will ultimately be placed.
Guidlines For Spamming
Spam occurs if identical pages are submitted to the same category multiple times, if one site is submitted to multiple inappropriate categories, or if a submission otherwise violates our Submission Policies or disrupts the Open Web Directory India. One trick sites will use to try to get multiple listings in the directory is to submit their site under different registered domains. Our goal is keep the Open Directory India spam-free.
In some cases, sites will be deep-linked. In these cases, the deep links should offer content that is extremely useful to a particular category, or the content should be particularly unique. Deeplinking should be the exception rather than the rule.
Webmaster submissions are subject to editor evaluation. URL's are only permitted to be indexed once. Always check our database by searching for your domain to make sure your site is not already indexed.
